Sophie Turner, the actress who is best known for playing Sansa Stark in HBO hit series Game of Thrones, recently did an interview with IGN, promoting the newly-released first trailer for Dark Phoenix, the latest X-Men movie where she will reprise her role as Jean Grey. But she also talked about Game of Thrones. And while no one expected her to say anything that will spoil the final season, the 22-year-old actress did share a few interesting thoughts about the series finale. Let’s see what she had to say.

Sophie Turner on Game of Thrones ending

First, Sophie Turner revealed her reaction to reading the script for the last episode. “There were a lot of tears,” she began, “I think, you know, as an actor it was really satisfying – I think for everyone, everyone’s storylines – to be able to act out the way that it all ends. It was really satisfying for us.”

So she basically confirms what all the other actors involved with the show have been saying for months. A lot of tears, really satisfying – no surprise there.  But it was when she was asked about how she thinks the fans will react to the ending that the actress shared a new, interesting perspective.

“Who knows if it will be satisfying for the fans,” Turner responded. “I think a lot of fans will be disappointed and a lot of fans will be over the moon, I think.”

Of course, no one expects the final season to be all rainbows and sunshine,  but this response from Sophie Turner straight up confirms that the entire fandom will be divided after the series finale. But what does this mean exactly?

When you think about it, this statement lines up perfectly with what both the showrunners and George R. R. Martin, the author of the A Song of Ice and Fire books, on which Game of Thrones is loosely based have said before, that the ending is going to be bittersweet. But that’s hardly something that will disappoint a lot of fans. After all, this is Game of Thrones we are talking about, and if there’s something that we learned about this series it’s that no character is ever safe.

But what if Sophie Turner’s statement refers to something else? What if it means that the show will end up doing something extremely controversial in the final episode that will cause a lot of fans to be disappointed in the end? Everything is possible, but let’s just hope something like that doesn’t happen.

Finally, Sophie Turner revealed what was the most heartbreaking moment for her while reading the script.

“I think it will be really interesting to see people’s reactions, but for me reading the script it was just like heartbreaking to read at the very final page of the script it just says, “End of Game of Thrones,” that was really emotional.”

When will Game of Thrones Season 8 air?

Over a month ago, Casey Bloys, HBO’s programming president, said that the final season of Game of Thrones will premiere sometime during the first half of 2019. But then, Joe Bauer, the visual effects supervisor, caused some serious confusion when he told Huffington Post that Game of Thrones won’t be eligible for the next year’s Emmy awards, which, of course, meant that the final season of the show would air only after the Emmy eligibility cutoff date, which is May 31.

And just when the fans thought that they would have to wait even longer for their favorite show to return, HBO came out with an official statement, saying that they will be airing all Game of Thrones Season 8 episodes in time for the 2019 Emmy eligibility cut off, which hints at April 2019 release date.
