While we patiently wait for the final season of Game of Thrones to arrive (okay, maybe not so patiently) Johnnie Walker, the world’s most widely distributed blended Scotch Whisky brand owned by DIAGEO, has partnered up with HBO to launch its very own Game of Thrones whiskey.
While this isn’t the first time that an alcoholic drink was inspired by the hit show since HBO licensing division already has existing deals for Game of Thrones beers and wine, this one is definitely the coolest one yet. And I mean literally.
If you haven’t guessed it already, Johnnie Walker new Scotch Whisky is inspired by everyone’s favorite icy demons from the far North, the White Walkers in what is definitely the best crossover imaginable. To be honest, if there is one drink that could make the wait for Game of Thrones season 8 more bearable, it’s got to be White Walker by Johnnie Walker.
“We knew there was an appetite for a Game of Thrones whiskey,” Jeff Peters, Vice President of HBO’s Licencing & Retail, said, “and once we saw DIAGEO’s vision for a way to collaborate together we knew the idea was perfect and the time was now.”
White Walker by Johnny Walker – best served cold
The White Walker whiskey, created by whiskey specialist George Harper and the small team of expert blenders at Johnnie Walker, is a 41.7 percent blend of single malts from Cardu and Clynelish – one of Scotland’s most northern distilleries. And notes of caramelized sugar, vanilla, fresh red berries with just the touch of orchard fruit are there to make it even more delicious. This whiskey comes in a 750ml bottle and is meant to be served directly from the freezer thus echoing the ever-chilling presence of the White Walkers.
The design of the bottle pays homage to the White Walkers with ice white and blue colors that should remind fans of the Lands of Always Land, the mysterious area north of the Wall, the home of the White Walkers. The bottle also sees the legendary Johnnie Walker Striding Man logo now suited up in the Night King’s armor.
The most innovative touch, however, comes via temperature-sensitive ink technology. So when the whiskey reaches optimum drinking temperature, not only will the bottle’s thermochromic pigmented ink recreate the haunting eyes of the White Walkers, but it will also reveal the “Winter is Here” message. How cool is that?
More Game of Thrones-inspired drinks are coming
Thanks to a new deal between DIAGEO and HBO’s licensing division, the White Walker whiskey will be available globally in liquor stores and airports until supplies last. The suggested retail price is $36. You can also order it on Amazon for $44 (gift-wrapping is available.)
On top of the White Walker whiskey, the brand will be releasing an entire Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection in November that will consist of eight bottles, each paired to a different House of Westeros and the Night’s Watch, giving fans an authentic taste of the Seven Kingdoms. Prices will range from $29.99 to 64.99.
